Louisville SQL Server and Power BI User Group

Welcome

Welcome!

Welcome to the Louisville SQL Server Users Group! We represent the SQL Server community in Louisville, the surrounding metropolitan area, and throughout most of Kentucky. As a technical users group, we focus on monthly meetings, but also provide networking, learning opportunities, speaking opportunities, training, and collaboration for SQL Server professionals throughout the Ohio Valley area. Our monthly meetings occur on the second Thursday of each month, either at lunchtime in the downtown Louisville area or in the evening outside downtown. This alternating approach to meeting times and locations allows us to support as many of our users as possible and provides different venue and time options for our meetings and our attendees. We also partner with various volunteer groups to bring special events to the area, such as SQL Saturdays. Those events typically draw large crowds of SQL Server professionals from Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, and beyond!

Getting Started with Always Encrypted

Join us on Thursday, July 14th for the next meeting of the Louisville SQL Server and Power BI Users Group! We will meet at the Humana Training Center in the Waterfront Plaza in downtown Louisville. Meeting information is as follows:

Topic:  Getting Started with Always Encrypted

Description:  SQL Server 2016 significantly raises the bar in terms of data security. One of the most exciting features introduced in the newest release of SQL Server is Always Encrypted. This feature ensures that data remains encrypted in its entire lifecycle - at rest as well as in transit. Additionally, the encrypted data can be made completely inaccessible to database administrators. With the assistance of an updated .Net client-side driver, this great new feature ensures that applications can leverage Always Encrypted data without application code changes. In this demo-rich session we will look at how to enable and configure Always Encrypted as well as how applications can be configured to use this amazing new technology.

Speaker: Tim Chapman

Tim Chapman is a Microsoft Certified Master (MCM) and works as a Dedicated Support Engineer (PFE) at Microsoft, specializing in performance tuning and high availability. Before coming to Microsoft, Tim was a contributor to the SQL MVP community for three years. Tim has over 14 years of database architecture, programming, and administration experience.
