Louisville SQL Server and Power BI User Group

Welcome

Welcome!

Welcome to the Louisville SQL Server Users Group! We represent the SQL Server community in Louisville, the surrounding metropolitan area, and throughout most of Kentucky. As a technical users group, we focus on monthly meetings, but also provide networking, learning opportunities, speaking opportunities, training, and collaboration for SQL Server professionals throughout the Ohio Valley area. Our monthly meetings occur on the second Thursday of each month, either at lunchtime in the downtown Louisville area or in the evening outside downtown. This alternating approach to meeting times and locations allows us to support as many of our users as possible and provides different venue and time options for our meetings and our attendees. We also partner with various volunteer groups to bring special events to the area, such as SQL Saturdays. Those events typically draw large crowds of SQL Server professionals from Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, and beyond!

Introduction to 'R' for Data Professionals

Join us on Thursday, October 13th for the next meeting of the Louisville SQL Server and Power BI Users Group! We will meet at the Humana Training Center in the Waterfront Plaza in downtown Louisville. Meeting information is as follows:

Topic:  Introduction to 'R' for Data Professionals

Description:  Chip’s talk is ostensibly about the “R” statistical language and how Microsoft is promoting its use in Power BI as well as the SQL Server 2016 and Azure ecosystems.  The talk will serve as an introduction to R, and display some examples of how statistical modeling and predictive analytics can be used to enhance database and business intelligence deployments in a Microsoft SQL environment.

Speaker: Chip Lynch

Chip Lynch is a Louisville native – an Atherton Rebel – with a Math and Computer Science degree from Xavier University.  He has 20 years’ experience working in data systems and is currently a Data Warehouse Architect at Farm Credit Mid America.  While wandering around after college he has done consulting on data systems for NASA, the US Air Force, the US Senate, and a bunch of other places that don’t sound nearly as cool.  Chip also wanted to plug “Louisville Makes Games”, a local non-profit he co-founded to promote video game development in the Louisville area, back when he thought pursuing a graduate degree in Data Mining at U of L wouldn’t take up enough of his free time.
